Just a little work going on...

When I measured the shim thickness, it was 1/16th..I thought the intake
gasket would be a lot thicker, but it is .060...and 1/16th is .0625. Close
enough for government work, so we took off the blue RTV except the
ends and put er' on...

Spent a little time on the distributor. One problem was a broken
bushing in the advance section. That's it on the right with
the new "donor" on the left.

I used a rubber cap plug, cut to size...

Over, the tit...

With the very small circlip reinstalled...
[EDIT: I just noticed the clip opening should probably be facing out.]

Test fit into the slot...

All of the parts to a mechanical, vacuum advanced,
point operated distributor, cleaned up a bit...

Image

I still need a new coil-point lead, a new cam grease wiper, a circular felt washer,
and three new point/cap screws to replace those mauled from regular use!
(In the baggie!)

I am still trying to figure out the best ignition system compromise for my engine...

I didn't get to work on the car at all today; I had too many "honey do's" and
the day evaporated. This is a little from yesterday...

I needed to clean up the valve cover bolts and seat attaching bolts.

Image

This is running a valve cover bolt through a die to clean it up...

After glass beading and cleaning...and coating with a clear metal protectant.
This job took about two hours.

Image

I put an old dizzy into the motor (sans gear) and had no problem
engaging the pump slot. I tuned the dizzy with a drill...and turned,
and turned, and nothing. Darn! Then I realized I only had about a quart
of oil in the crankcase!

After I added 3 more quarts, I spun it again and...

Image

I think my helper missed a little blue glue under the manifold...I'll have
to check for leaks tomorrow.
